About Seth Mayer

I am an American born (1961) artist currently based in Colorado Springs Colorado.....
You can find me in the early morning hours of the day on the coast or in a forest surrounded by the sounds, textures and wonderful designs of nature. Or you might just catch me in an abandoned building or junkyard photographing textures shapes and form. If I’m not wondering about I most likely will be in my studio with a flashlight painting splashes of light on a still life or photographing a model for a conceptual composite image. Using long exposure techniques I want to convey in my work the motion and passage of time, even if only a few seconds, that visually we don’t see.....
Being a photographer is a way of life. My journey began at the age of 14 when I blew off the cobwebs on my father's old darkroom equipment. It’s a constant visual search for light, design, and detail for which I try to bring to my viewers. I once read, “At first, I saw mountains as mountains and rivers as rivers. Then, I saw mountains were not mountains and rivers were not rivers. Finally, I see mountains again as mountains, and rivers again as rivers.” This is always in the back of my mind on my visual journey. My artwork consists of both black & white and color images. I like to utilize several different techniques in my work such as long exposure, painting with light, infrared, texture layering and composites.....
When I am not working on my art, I am creating images for commercial clients which I have been doing for over 40 years. My fashion/costume work is in specialty retailers throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Latin & South America, Australia, and Asia. Licensors include Lucas Licensing, Disney, Mattel, Warner Brothers, Playboy, Paramount Pictures and many others.....
As an international award-winning photographer and visual artist, I have received many international awards in the categories of Conceptual, Fine Art, Nudes, Nature, Abstract, Architecture, Landscape, and Portrait. My work has been on display around the world in museums and galleries, corporate offices and homes of private collectors.....
The subjects of my first gallery exhibit back in the early 80's were trees created with b&w film. Trees are still a favorite subject of mine, now captured with digital cameras. The motion of water as it crashes upon the land, fishing piers heading off to the horizon, cityscapes, light painted still lifes and portraits are also favorites.....
The artwork I create is designated as limited edition prints. The limited edition prints are signed and numbered on archival Museum grade, 100% cotton or pure alpha cellulose paper such as Hahnemühle Photo Rag Pearl 320gsm, Hahnemühle Photo Rag 310gsm or Hahnemühle Fine Art Pearl 285gsm. I am always researching and testing different papers and substrates and will select a medium that is of the highest quality and extends my vision for that image.

Education

I studied and worked at the Maine Photo Workshops in the early 80’s where I had the opportunity to learn and work with some of the finest photographers from all genres such as Ernst Haas, Jay Meisel, Bill Hayward, Arnold Newman, Craig Stevens, John Sexton, Art Kane to name a few. After such a great experience at the Maine Photo Workshops, I began teaching individual and small group workshops to help aspiring photographers improve their craft.
