Born Ripon, Yorkshire, 1952.
Russell Mills has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions globally, created site-specific multimedia installations, videos and soundworks for film and radio. He has designed sets and lighting for some of the most innovative performers of the last twenty years including Siobhan Davies Dance Company, London Contemporary Dance Theatre, Wire, Jan Gabarek, the Hilliard Ensemble, John Surman and Terry Riley. He has also produced award winning album covers and influential book covers for Samuel Beckett, Brian Eno, Michael Brook, Gavin Bryars, Harold Budd, the Cocteau Twins, Miles Davis, Roger Eno, Peter Gabriel, Djivan Gasparyan, Hugo Largo, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Milan Kundera, Bill Laswell, Bob Marley, Ian McEwan, Nine Inch Nails, Youssou N'Dour, Michael Nyman, Jayne Anne Phillips, David Sylvian, Graham Swift, Toru Takemitsu, David Toop and Hector Zazou.

Since 1990 he has collaborated with the artist Ian Walton on contextually anchored, site-specific installations.
