S. John Crowley: A Journey Through Art and Service

From the crucible of early trials to the disciplined ranks of the U.S. Army, S. John Crowley’s life is a canvas of resilience and transformation. Orphaned at fourteen and later embracing the call of duty as an Armor Crewman during the Cold War, his four-year military service honed a spirit that would imbue his art with profound depth.

Post-service, 1996 marked Crowley’s odyssey into the scenic arts in Hollywood, California, where under the mentorship of industry stalwarts like Frank Pera and Bill Anderson, he mastered his craft. At Walt Disney Imagineering, he painted dreams into reality, contributing to the enchanting worlds of the Disney Stores, the Disney Cruise Line, Tokyo Disney, and Tomorrow Land.

His artistry further flourished at NBC’s “Passions” and the Oscars, showcasing his versatility and commitment to scenic excellence. Yet, the call of duty echoed again, and Crowley answered, serving with valor in Operation Iraqi Freedom earning a Combat Action Badge. It was an experience that intensified the narratives woven into his artworks.

Scenic, Title and Graphic Artists Local 816 was a professional association of artists that had special skills and talents within the entertainment industry. Local 816 represented members that worked in many diverse, but related fields of the entertainment industry, such as: Motion Picture, Television, Theater, Theme Amusement Parks, Commercials, Independent Scene Shops, Trade Shows and Museums.
