Stacy Caldwell

Background - I grew up in a small corner of southeastern Pennsylvania, preceded by generations of pragmatic Pennsylvania Dutch Mennonites, farmers who valued hard work, frugality, and functionality.

I developed an interest in art early on and sought out opportunities to paint and draw throughout high school; but college, especially art school, was not something my family or I knew much about. Later during my 30’s, I studied painting, drawing and art history at the public university where I worked.

Some deeply transformative experiences along the way provided added boosts - an extended immersive workshop with Timothy Hawkesworth at Art New England, Bennington, VT in 2012; a week-long solo stay at a historic dune shack on the far north shores of Cape Cod in 2017; and a return to the same dune shack in 2018 for a three-week residency.

Recently I’ve had the great fortune to benefit from the mentorship of E.M. Saniga. I continue to work full time in an office, but I am a life long student of the practice of painting.
