Stephanie Jane Champion

I live and paint in sunny Florida after residing for 20 years on a Greek island. My work is driven by the human condition of collective memory, cultural identity, and of today's concerns with movement and belonging, all shown energetically and passionately in palettes that represent the blue mediterranean and burnt yellow island landscape, alongside the hot tropical greens and pinks of Florida. Originally from England, I paint to evoke those feelings of belonging and continuity whilst seeing the world fresh, reflectling a dichotomy of calm and energized.

Influenced by living among and experiencing the Classical Greco Romano world of mosaics, sulptures, and Byzantium iconoclastic art, and the ancient stone circles of prehistoric Britain, right up to the most modern expressive minimalism, I use color and form to bring forward memories whilst remembering we must forever move forward.
