What is your art about? What are you trying to say?
My work is about the pressures that are put on women of all ages, but particularly older women in this project to conform a manufactured media ideal of the perfect woman. If the media is to be believed we should all be young, slim, tanned, toned, sexy, large breasted, long legged, full lipped, small hipped with a pert bum and flat tum, big eyes, and firm thighs, long lashes no tashes and no wrinkles or crinkles. Oh yes and preferably blonde and definitely sexually available.
So youre a feminist?
Yes, I am. I think women are being coerced with a lot of hype into presenting themselves as sexual objects. Its a kind of backlash against womens lib really Feminists were telling us that we could embrace our sexuality the media is telling us now that we have to be sexual to do that. I mean that we have to present ourselves in such a way that men have manufactured as their pornographic ideal.
Well if you are a feminist why are you making such unflattering images of women? Arent you just degrading women yourself?
