About Lydia van der Meer

'Painting for me is trying to make the daily things in life stand out, which can be a landscape you see everyday, an expression on a face or just a simple piece of fruit. Through the medium of oilpaint, composition and light I try to make you want to look again and agian to the simplicity of the subject'.
Lydia van der Meer has been a photographer for over 30 years, after graduating from the Royal Academy of Art, Den Haag, the Netherlands in 1986. She worked for more than a decade in London as a press photographer and picture editor for the Financial Times newspaper. During that time she photographed some of the world's most famous people. Her work has been exhibited at solo and joint exhibitions in London. She has now turned her photographer's eye to painting.
