Wenli Liu is a contemporary figurative painter whose work explores the emotional and psychological dimensions of human existence, often through the lens of female experience. Born in Beijing, China, Liu moved to the United States in 1998 to study at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. After working as a graphic designer, she transitioned into a full-time studio practice. Drawing inspiration from identity, time, memory, and the transformative nature of life, her paintings feature fluid forms, shifting color fields, and layered compositions that reflect fragility, resilience, and constant becoming. Through her work, Liu invites viewers to contemplate impermanence, selfhood, and the quiet strength found within vulnerability. She primarily works in oil on canvas and currently lives and works in Atlanta, Georgia, the United States.
