Katharina Kretschmer
Painter/Graphic Artist in Dresden, Germany:
Of course my preference always belongs to the technique with which I am working currently. In the last three years it was and it is above all the Collage, whose aesthetically charming and playful possibilities fascinate me. It has opened to me the doors afar. I feel it as the greatest enrichment in my work until now. Through it I turned once more to the woodcut which obliges to clearness and precision. Reduced to the essential what is actually the concern of my work. Also the painting with Acryl on canvas was fecundated by the work with the Collage.
Before, during many years, only Pastels with strong colours originated. I dabbled also the technique of etching (Drypoint, Aquatinta).
Tireless it drives me - also when brush, scissors, knife sometimes rest - and often drawings emerge, also surprising for me, of which I did not think before.
Reversed it is the same - the painting and the woodcut guide me once more to the
Collage.
In the centre of my artistic work there is the human being, especially the female one. In its contrariness, complexity and also incalculability. I trace the human being in the personal sphere and in the great social...
I was born in Dresden in 1971.
My parents worked at the theatre, my father as actor, my mother dramatic adviser, later as director of a theatre.
From 1991 to 1994 I studied at Burg Giebichenstein, University of Applied Sciences of Arts and Design, Halle/ Saale, first textile arts, than I changed to painting/ graphic arts.
From 1994 to 1997 I continued my studies at the University of Plastic Arts in Dresden in the painting class of Prof. Claus Weidensdorfer and got my degree there.
From 1997 to 1999 I was master-class student of the painter Prof. Ronald Paris in Halle.
Since 1993 I had and have many exhibitions in galleries and public institutions in many German towns. In Berlin, Potsdam, Magdeburg, Halle, Leipzig, Meiningen....
and, of course, again and again also in Dresden. Until now I did not get an offer to exhibit in other countries.
My companion Ivar Bahn (freelancer/ author) and I work and live in Dresden. We have three sons.
