Mixed Medium on Canvas, 50 x 50 cm, 2020

This work is part of a series called Superstition.
I started working on it back in 2017 after visiting "Munich Residenz". The Palace was ones home for Bavarian royal family and the center of pilgrimage during the 16th Century Counter-Reformation because of its fine collection of christian relics. They are so magnificent and glorious in their rich decoration, that one gets stuck in the relatively small room of Reliquarium, mesmerised by the creepy beauty of its objects.
All this made me think of all the things we, humans, give meaning to and believe in.

This artwork is an interpretation of Yin & Yang concept. I address it through two butterflies - the night one and the day one, the colourless and the colourful, the one that flourishes in the day light and the one that kills itself by getting attracted to light.
These little spots are real butterfly wings that I found somewhere.
