This piece was created in Matlakas’ studio, where he assembled a photo collage depicting a dreamlike world that mirrors our society. The artist photographed each element, including a self-portrait of himself watering the desert. From this barren land, iconic buildings emerge, symbolizing humanity’s relentless drive to build without considering environmental consequences. The watering can, filled not with water but with polluted liquid, nurtures these structures, highlighting the blindness of society. The artist’s plastic pose further reflects the artificial nature of our world.

He obtained a degree in Sculpture at the University of Fine Arts in Naples and an MA in Social Sculpture at Oxford Brookes University. Riccardo Matlakas has performed and shown his work extensively in Europe, Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, Palestine, Jordan, South Africa, Iran, Armenia, Russia, Myanmar, Mauritius and South Korea.
