My art has so much movement to begin with that just by the sheer use of lines layering over each other. I wanted to see if I could make the actual structure move in and out, sort of like an ancient Asian screens accordion effect. I accomplished it by mounting twelve 21"x5" boards together, each double board meets as a triangle and is mounted to the next double board so that it moves in and out across the 48" width. Each piece was done separately with little care as to what might be next to it, trusting that the composition would all fall into place. The bold contrast of the clay and ink and intricate line work really makes this piece quite marvelous!

Most of my career was spent as an Art Director/Designer. After a 2006 cancer diagnosis, I followed my dream of making art full time. I began a search for non-toxic materials and found these hard boards which are covered in a fine white clay with a layer of India ink on top. When I draw with an X-ACTO knife into the layer of ink, fine lines magically appear in the clay. The more pressure I put on my knife, the brighter the white clay appears. If I want to add color,I paint with colored inks after etching into the boards. To add even more texture, I add heavy, black acrylic paint throughout the background at the end of the process. My innate ability to notice even the most minute details in nature translates into meticulous art, compelling the viewer to take a closer look. My art is in private collections, has won prestigious awards, residencies and fellowships, and has been requested for exhibitions throughout the world.
