Wipe That Stupid Smile Off Your Face! Drawing

Lives in Allentown, PA, teaches sculpture, drawing and women's studies at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA. Recent fellowship: Women's Studio Workshop, Vermont Studio Center, Johnson VT and Zea Mays Printmaking. I have been a sculptor who has been carving wood and making drawings and prints for over 50 years, usually exhibiting in small museums, alternative spaces, and college and university galleries. My work is figurative. I am interested in the relationship between image and text. This work, all done in the past few years, is part of a larger ongoing series all containing self-portraits; I use my own image, one I have control over, to draw attention to issues I have little control over. I am currently doing work on Domestic Violence, remembered childhood sexual abuse, my art engages with social practice. My work is referential, feminist and socially constructed. The prints are monotypes, done as polymer lithography, Photogravure and photopolymer gravure. Text is added on top in gouache, or debossed with solar relief plates or letterpress. The text is handwritten, stenciled, printed or cut.
