About The Artwork

This painting comes from a collection of 22 acrylic paintings. The creative process included cutting three collections of about 50 paintings into pieces to recreate new art. Each painting has a combination of three or more paintings incorporated into one. That makes each work very unique in its expression and style. It was inspired by reinventing my artistic style by using my old paintings to create a more contemporary style. The process was the beginning of the evolution of my work. This work is a collage of overlapping figures that seem to be in contemplation. They represent memories and thoughts of the past of regret, as the figures in the background are hiding their faces. The lack of expressions do not tell much about their feelings but their body language does. The colorful display of the figures seem vibrant and happy which contrast with the figures to represent facades people often use to mask their identity and feelings. The painting is acrylic and ink on paper in a collage. The human form is significant in understanding weight, balance and symmetry. It was intended to be experimental work by playing around with those elements in a fauvist style.

Trinidad and Tobago

Caribbean artist with influences from beautiful and vibrant biodiversity in her home country, Trinidad and Tobago. Having a playful and dynamic artistic style that is experimental, she explores different styles, from using vibrant and fauvist inspired palettes to a monchrome. She is primarily inspired by Chinese landscape ink paintings that have evolved into a more contemporary expressive style. Her most recent works consist of monchromatic ink paintings that see a greater abstraction of forms, expression and playfulness in design overlays. Her use of ink is therapeutic and meditative where one has to understand the natural flow of ink and how it interacts with layers, water and the paper in creating forms. There is a level of control and letting go in the creative process. Understanding this flow of ink is refelctive of undestanding the flow of life. nicoletangart.com
