‘A Trip Down Memory Lane’ is a personal original piece. This painting–which is my creative interpretation of a conversation I had with my sister in law, aims to capture the emotions that come with getting older. Despite the bright and vibrant background (which Jo is in every way) the portrait aims to capture the sadness and frustrations of being relied upon. From being a parent to having a sick parent to care for, the stresses and strains of life can, at times, be hard to ignore, even with being a playful and charismatic person.

Born in 1989, Ellis King is a contemporary artist living and working in Norwich, England. King’s paintings focus on portraiture of women and merge bold, abstract displays of colour with fine, realist detail. Her unique style – which falls somewhere between realism and abstract – is narrative-filled, and hopes to redefine what it means to be a woman; to protest the ongoing gender inequality we have accustomed to and accepted as the norm.
