ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The title of the painting comes after a line in the poem Burnt Norton, by TS Eliot. The painting itself comes after a collage of photos made out from still from a movie of a dance academy in Poland during the cold war. The idea is to bring out a series of paintings that relate to how bodies are educated in different regimes. I made out a collage, then draw the final image onto canvas using charcoal and then made the final painting. I am very happy with this painting. It inscribes itself in the tradition of modernism - technically speaking, the values of the drawing are replaced with colors in an autonomous way, but the content is very conceptual. The content relates to the use of the body in pedagogy and discourse. I really hope you enjoy it and take it to be part of your collection. I am sure it will make you as happy as it makes me!
