This is a small-scale abstract done in shades of pink, and green, black and white. It is edgy, urban and raw. Some would say crazy or chaotic, but I think it's just a fun funky piece. It has differing shapes and layers of expressive mark making. It was done on heavy paper with acrylic and mixed me...

The creative process for me is one that is both automatic and emotional. When I go into my studio I always go with a sense of wonder and ‘what if’. Creating my art is like being on a curving mountain road or exploring an unknown path; ups and downs, highs and lows, twists and turns. I try to approach each piece without fear of doing something wrong. I let the piece shape itself and bring me along for the ride. Like life, my pieces are constant movement, constant change. The creation process for me is cathartic, allowing my emotions to spill out onto my canvas as a release. Sometimes conflicts have to be overcome, but at other times, when I'm in the moment and not really thinking about where the painting is going, I just let it take me where it needs to go. That's when it's magical, when I don't have to think, I just have to do. One of the most heart warming things a collector has ever told me: “Dear Kat, I just wanted to reach out to tell you how much I admire your work. I just acquired two pieces and I couldn’t be more excited. Both feel alive with energy and intention, and they speak so beautifully in conversation with one another. What really drew me in was not just the strength of the individual pieces, but the coherence and depth of your broader body of work. There’s a through-line of curiosity, motion, and emotional truth that feels rooted in the best traditions of abstract expressionism—but with a voice that is entirely your own. I also read your artist statement and found it incredibly resonant. As someone who loves the emergent nature of process—where the act of painting is as meaningful as the final piece—I really connected with your approach. It’s clear you trust the canvas to reveal the painting as much as you shape it. That tension and discovery comes through so powerfully. Thank you for putting such compelling work into the world. I’ll be cherishing these pieces — and following your journey closely. Warmly, E.”
