About The Artwork

As with the other paintings by Jaren Dahlstrom, they are based on reflections on water. The Berkeley Series of painting the source of the images started out as photographs of reflections he shot at the Berkeley Marina in Berkeley, CA. These images are then further manipulated in his computer to increase saturation, create additional distortion and play with scale in order to create an abstract image which can paint. He hopes the viewer will find something in the image that is somehow familiar yet new, which is both bold and beautiful. Or, perhaps the viewer might discover what a visitor to his solo show at the University of Portland did, and felt move to leave the following comment: "...true artists real mystic truths, after all and yet again it's all in the water. The colors are beautiful and have real soul."
