Anyone who spends time in Key West will soon be aware of all the roosters roaming about town. While living in the old part of towns Bahamas village, Bergelin woke up every morning with the sounds of roosters shouting ”Cock-a-doodle-do” and found the lettering when spelling the word ”Cock-a-doodle-do” funny. The animal series was born this way. Working at a temporary outdoor terrace studio on the third floor rigth next to the atlantic ocean, wind and tropical rain became part of the paper works It´s really a unconscious and very immediate way of creating pictures. Playing with the lettering and the doubled message of the words ”Dog. Pig, Oink, Meow. - I find words and animals truly inspiring and funny. After studying the lettering of animals sounds. I started putting them in context of a human beings own thoughts, the hidden uncertain messages, but deep inside i mean.... On the contrary the Old Macdonald pictures became naked and intense. It related directly to Bergelin´s interest in the meaning of words. Words that could be like bullets from a gun. .

Johan Bergelin, born in 1969. Have developed himself as an artist for over 35 years. His archive includes over 1000 works on various mediums like photography, paper, canvas, wood and pvc. 10 selected works will be available for sale at Saatchiart.com ranging from large scale canvas work, pvc and wood paintings, pastel drawings and photography. Bergelin's preferred technique, automatism, using simple, primitive lines and holding the pastels, pencils or brushes very gently. The picture's effect is a kind of "romantic symbolism". The more you observe the pictures the clearer you see the message of love. Finally you see that all are tributes to life in its ultimate state. A unconscious and very immediate way of creating pictures. With references from the streets but also both from Cobra and Artbrut movements. Colour references are often from the Fauvism, often with strong purple, red, black, yellow red shades. As an outsider, Bergelin have had no contact with the mainstream world of art or art institutions.
