Dancing Birches Painting

Painting was inspired by Kazakhstan’s grove of dancing birches. A legend says that, once upon a time on the lakeside, the youth of the nearby settlements organized a festival, with puzzles and competitions for the mind and dexterity, songs and dances. The Ruler (Khan) wanted to see the entertainment so he dressed up as a commoner to get to the festival incognito. Young people were having fun ; they played and sang, competed in craftsmanship. Finally, the time to dance came and girls started dancing on the lawn. The Khan was so fascinated and enchanted by their dance that he could not help himself and came out to praise their beauty and graceful dance. The girls recognized the Ruler and got scared that they froze bent in a dance and turned into birches.
