Giovanni Portogallo was born in San Martino di Taurianova in a Calabrian village, in Italy. His father was from Sicily and his mother from Calabria. They were both, in a way, artists: his father, Pietro Portogallo, was a cabinetmaker, an upholsterer and a restorer of antique furniture and vintage cars; His mother was a designer. He grew up in a favourable setting, where creativity and art weren't lacking. Gino, pushed also by the post-war need, spread all along the interest and the curiosity towards his father's craft, that, together with hard work and deep passion, contributed to the achievement of his high level of professionalism in this field. Time passes, Giovanni practises his work with more and more passion until, at a certain point, he feels the need to experiment with the art of drawing. Although he doesn't abandon the fatherly activity, he starts dedicating himself to painting. Thus his creativity evolves and favours the development of his exceptional talent, which is evident in different types of work, particularly landscapes, abstract but also realistic artworks, whose fidelity to reality is always very high. Until this moment the techniques used by him are that already explored and created by geniuses such as Picasso, Monet, Van Gogh and so on. Thanks to his incredible attitude in the art of painting, Giovanni Portogallo decides to represent the content of his previous works in another perspective, the "tridimentional" one. Get used to create and to restore sofas and cars, he decides to invent the "tridimentional" perspective on the canvas, so that the spectator before his works could watch the represented subject in a more concrete way. All this was possible thanks to his excellent gift, which allowed him to create a technique never explored before, in a personal and new way, autodidactically, far from any academic reference. Giovanni Portogallo's artistic career has been characterized by important appreciations. Thus he can be considered as one of the most eminent artists of our country. On the occasion of The World Day of Peace, Giovanni Portogallo makes a present of one of his pieces of art, whose content has to do with that of the book by Pintacuda. Father Ennio Pintacuda's criticism: "With gratitude to the painter Gino Portogallo, whose inspiration in the painting he has realized for me coincides with that of my book, which I have the pleasure to dedicate.
