About The Artwork

Zen calligraphy 'Invite Friends Over When You Have Wine' brushed on rice paper. This Zen poetry scroll is mounted as a hanging scroll with soft green silk with fine pattern and natural wooden rollers at the bottom. The calligraphy "Invite friends over when you have wine" is a line of poetry by the Tang poet Han Shan, the Chinese hermit poet called Cold Mountain. The calligraphy, brushed in the semi-cursive style of Japanese calligraphy, is an invitation to share a good glass of wine with a good friend, and celebrate kindness and friendship. At the left of the calligraphy stands a dedication to my father, written in Dutch, who was a winemaker. Size of the scroll in cm: 200 x 54,5 x 0,2 cm. The width of the scroll without the rollers is 45 cm or 17.7 inches. The scroll will be shipped rolled in a traditionally-made silk box.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

My artwork comprises Zen calligraphy, watercolor and ink paintings, and abstract calligraphies. My mediums are ink, watercolors and natural pigments on rice paper, mainly Xuan paper. I wield the Chinese and Japanese brush, preferably the flexible sheep's hair brush. Many of my Zen calligraphies express the Emptiness teaching from the Heart Sutra, which has been the original inspiration for my Japanese calligraphy artwork. Other calligraphies focus on the teachings of the Diamond Sutra, Platform Sutra, or depict Zen koan, Zen poetry or single kanji. In my watercolors and ink paintings I strive for a pictorial synthesis of the subject, in the spirit of Japanese ink painting, using bold washes and vivid brush strokes.
