'Memory 4: That playground will be my favorite office.' by Alex Sojic; 30x30 cm; Acrylic on Canvas; 2024 Original work. This paining belongs to the Collection of Memories (see bellow). Selected paintings from this collection will be exhibited at a collective exhibition in Milan, March 2024. Wooden stretcher frame, ready to hang. The certificate of authenticity contains a unique catalogue number of this artwork. This painting 'Memory 4' belongs to the collection of paintings that depict the process through which our memories are crystallizing over time, particularly during exposure to new experiences. Contrary to what one can imagine, the memory is often fluid and capable of reshaping previous memories in the light of new information, sensory or cognitive. During that process, we may change our perception on how we see the world around us as well as how we remember the past. Sometimes our memories might have a more rigid nature, enabling us to create a robust and stable vision of the world as well as of our own identity. However, thanks to the fluidity we are capable of accommodating new experiences into the continuous puzzle of life by means of creation and recreation of memories, where every moment might bring something diverse and unexpected. New knowledge. New sensations. New discoveries. New science. New cultures. New memories. New identity. © Sojic, all rights reserved.

CENTRAL TOPIC: I am capturing human nature, its powers and weaknesses. I am interested in the interplay of physical, emotional, and cognitive articulations that - jointly with random drifts - may shape and re-shape human experience, intuition, particular forms of expression, perceptions as well as individual and collective decisions. BACKGROUND: As my childhood trilemma (becoming an astronaut, an explorer, or an artist), never ended, I have embraced a complex career path. I first attended an art school as a preparatory course for the Fine Arts Academy. Then, after my Bachelor of Arts / MA / in philosophy, I continued my doctoral research in academia, studying sciences, arts, and emerging technologies. For many years I have been working as as a researcher, but also as a curator responsible for PR management at a national museum. Eventually, all my life experience led me towards realisation of my innate and profound need to communicate through my paintings. So, here we are! MOTIVATION: Facing an empty canvas or a piece of paper is the moment when I feel invited to immerse into it. It is the very act of painting that drives me to create my artworks the way I do. In my semi-figurative paintings, you may recognise certain elements of critics and prise of contemporary society, positive and negative delusions, human ignorance and joy, depicted in oil, ink, acrylic, and digital media. PLACEMENT: Till 2007 I was living and working in my hometown Belgrade (SRB). I had a cheerful childhood in a special country, Yugoslavia. During my adolescence, my country changed its identity, name and borders several times. I witnessed human struggle, play of power, wars, hunger, death and an immense human capacity of survival. I moved to Milan (ITA) in 2008. During my Ph.D and a post doctoral period I spent some time in Exeter (GBR), and Bremen (DEU). I am currently based in Milan.
