About The Artwork

Original bold contemporary painting from « Lava Flow Series » inspired by newly started volcanic eruption in Geldingadalur valley, closed to Fagradalsfjall mountain on the Reykjanes peninsula Southwest Iceland. Abstract black and red pattern of hot lava flowing, full of energy and passion. This vibrant painting has multi layers of quality paint, texture medium and bit of sand, giving nice reliefs and movement with strong contrast between light and dark colors. Finished with a layer of fine semi gloss varnish to protect the painting from UV rays and dust. Painted on gallery wrapped canvas, stretched on wooden frame and stapled on the back. Edges are painted in black, framing is not required and the artwork comes “ready to hang”. This artwork is signed and dated on the back and delivered with a Certificate of Authenticity. Once you have placed your order the artwork will be shipped within 5 working days carefully packed and with a tracking number. Klara Gunnlaugsdottir is an Icelandic painter who has been living in Brittany, France for many years. She is an experienced artist with international exposure and her works are held in private collections worldwide. The singularity of Klara's painting is based on a contemporary abstract style inspired by nature, in particular the landscapes of her native Iceland. Indeed, the painter grew up in a small town near Reykjavik, surrounded by lava fields on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other. Like nature, her work depicts the opposition between light and dark, rough and smooth, thick and thin. With multiple layers of paint and modeling pastes, she builds depth and interesting texture onto the canvas. Her paintings are powerfull with bold brushstrokes and strong contrast where light and dark colors compete. Klara Gunnlaugsdottir suggests and reveals the invisible in her paintings, always giving free rein to individual interpretation. Statement: “I paint simply because it makes me feel good and gives me fulfillment, it is my way to express myself and communicate with the world. I consider each of my artwork as a field of exploration and sharing. I hope to convey through my paintings the energy, wellness and healing that emerges from nature all around us. That’s why it is a great pleasure for me to share my work and passion with others. “
