ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Amanda Benedicta Antony, popularly known as Amanda Black is a South African singer, songwriter and recording artist. Originally from Mthatha in the Eastern Cape, she sings in both her native Xhosa dialect and in English. Amanda expresses how proud she is of her roots, and she usually adorns her face with stipples of Xhosa face paint (umchokozo). It now has become part of her brand as Amanda Black. It’s a way she expresses herself and embraces her culture, as well as feeling beautiful while doing so. So it’s very important to her to portray her roots and where she has come from. As a way of accepting her very dark skin and her pride around her African identity, she tells stories of her ethnicity through her music.
