About The Artwork

In this work, I wanted to visually depict the hollow and deeply empty feeling many working women experience after climbing the corporate ladder, looking for a lasting sense of accomplishments and self-worth. After achieving a certain level of climbing myself, I felt this intense feeling of being intensely alone, and dried up inside without any lasting sense of joy or achievement... The corporate structure in the 90s was still very gruesome for the ambitious female and minorities to dare to climb without giving up so much, including personal happiness and time for oneself. Ttere was always this spot light on the person that followed her everwhere, no emotion, no mistake were allowed... These oppressive feelings culmulated to my choosing the road of motherhood 4 years later, in serearch of something kinder and gentler, and nurturing. People say "Be careful what you wish for; it may come true." I hope the viewers will reflect upon the the weighty question "At what cost, at how much of personal happiness are we willing to sacrifice to live up to the conventional notion of success?" I chose this subject matter to depict what"UN-happy hours" look like in the real world of ambitious women trying to wear pants and not quite being comfortable in the men's world.
