Michail Parlamas was born in 1977 in Piraeus ,Greece. He studied painting at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, in the department of Applied and Fine Arts with Evangelos Dimitreas as his tutor. He then moved to London to complete his post graduate studies at Saint Martins College of Art and Design(MA in Fine Arts) and East London University(Professional Doctorate in Fine Art).My work makes reference to different cultures, icons and logos. All these elements are juxtaposed in order to question and re-examine the ethical stance of appropriating pre-existing imagery and cultural references. This pluralistic framework that supports the simultaneous existence of different cultural and aesthetic values attempts to create a unique dialogue, which aims to be thought- provoking. Ultimately, the creative intention is to view the past and the present on a single surface in a way that is more relevant and accessible to a younger generation.I am drawn to the contrast between past-present and natural-artificial, which is enhanced by the colour palette, especially the juxtaposition of fluorescent colours against earthy tones. Additionally, the flat surfaces with textural brush marks are emphasised by graphic elements with painterly qualities. The colour selection and painting techniques employed make reference to different art movements, particularly Pop Art, Street Art, and American Abstract Expressionism.
