"Quiet Light" is an original painting , the first of a series of paintings revealing the beauty found when darkness is illuminated by the smallest light. In this series I've attempted to capture this experience; details disappear and reappear from the shadows as the day progresses and the light changes (shown in photos).

In my studio, my drafting table and easels form a loose circle of work in all stages. In front of a big window is an inherited old pine desk, grayed wood weathered and split; large glass cylinders hold outstretched branches brought in during late fall, their deep golden leaves, dried and curled, so delicate, they float in all directions, and you can imagine the breeze that once blew through them. Brilliant blades from paperweight bulbs catch the light and are a translucent white-green of new growth, planted in hope. All my natural treasures create the most fantastic shadows and I get to witness the full spectrum of light and shadows cast all over the room. The most magical moments are the quiet ones, early in the morning or as the sun is all but gone. The heavy drapery wraps the room in a cocoon and this is my own private conservatory. Throughout the brightest light and the deepest darkness, there is a moment of beauty to be found, but you must look.

36" x 48". Acrylic on canvas. Wired and ready to install.
