I am a modern impressionist focusing on the cultivation of positive energy that often emerges while I paint. I explore the deep connection between the various sensations and meanings of landscape and is often my primary focus. My paintings come to be through the ceremony of breath and water. I also infuse smoke from burning sage or palo santo in my painting which takes place from my home studio. I use what I’ve named “the horizontal way” as inspiration for my paintings. “ In a vertical world -- in which society heavily influences the consistent need to add more and more on the shoulders until the knees buckle, and to rise higher and higher, never reaching the “top” -- Scott Michael chooses to be horizontal. “ The horizontal way is a focused path that moves forward on the horizontal plane with feet firmly planted on the ground, experiencing gratitude from all around. As the gaze peers forward towards the horizon, a steady focus is revealed. I have been painting for 20 years but birthed my process in 2020 as an outward statement to the world.
