The Sub Rosa series reflects the tropes of two traditions – the classical pictorial language of vanitas still life, and the artistic discovery of the unconscious, as typified by Dali and Magritte's experiments in symbolic space and silence. The rose is inspired by the use of eastern mandalas in focusing the mind of the student to penetrate the deeper mysteries of self, and the act of creative repetition to unlock and engage with the emotional content of a symbol. The series has been previously exhibited at New York University, Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery, Edith Cowan University, and showcased in the Albany Art Prize and Brisbane Art Prize.

Robert Buratti is a Perth-based artist and curator. His work has been shown in a number of important museums including New York University, featured on the largest video screen in Times Square (New York) and was recently included on a NASA mission to deep space as part of a world culture time capsule. His recent paintings have been selected for the Moran Prize, Albany Art Prize, Black Swan Portrait Prize and many others. He is the curator for the City of Armadale, Curator for the Minnawarra Art Awards, Past President of the Friends of the Art Gallery of WA, Past Editor of Artifacts Magazine (Art Gallery of WA), a member and sponsor of The Blake Society, founding President of the national art guild, Collective777, and has been awarded a number of international residencies and prizes for his own artwork across Australia, China and the USA. His work is chiefly concerned with the role of the spiritual within the artistic experience, and the talismanic and tranformational power of the image. Influenced by the approach and experimentation of artists such as James Gleeson, Andre Breton, Aleister Crowley, Paul Gauguin and the french symbolists, his work seeks a balance between the seen and unseen, the technical and the intuitive. In 2007, he relocated to Western Australia, establishing his own fine art gallery in 2011 in North Fremantle, and a second print gallery in 2013 in Fremantle CBD before relocating the business to the inner-city suburb of Subiaco in 2015.
