ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This painting shows an unvarnished, honest portrait of a hidden backyard in the heart of Stuttgart. The entrance to this hidden area of the city is shrouded in an impenetrable shadow, creating a mysterious frame for the sunlight that bathes the backyard in radiant gold. The driveway itself, rather plain and functional, gives an impression of sobriety and practicality. The surrounding buildings are not imposing or prestigious, but rather simple and functional in their architecture. The painting focuses on the interplay of light and shadow. While the driveway is in shadow, the backyard shines in bright sunlight. This light reveals a scene that radiates a certain beauty and authenticity despite the modest surroundings.

I am Richard Mierniczak, a self-taught artist from Leonberg near Stuttgart. My journey into art began organically, driven by an innate passion and curiosity to explore the limitless realms of creativity. As a self-taught artist, I have spent years honing my craft and learning painting techniques and theoretical knowledge through self-study. Oil painting became my main medium at the tender age of 17 to 18 and remains my faithful companion on this artistic odyssey. Through its rich textures and vibrant hues, I weave narratives that reflect my deep-rooted connection to nature. Growing up amid the green fields, meadows and forests of my childhood, nature became my playground and sparked a lifelong commitment to preserving and celebrating it. While natural landscapes remain a central motif in my work, urban landscapes, geometric abstractions and symbolic-surreal themes have also appeared in my artistic development. But like a persistent echo, nature appears again and again and gives my creations their timeless appeal. In my pursuit of artistic expression, I employ a variety of techniques tailored to each subject. The spontaneity of Alla Prima's oil painting lends itself beautifully to capturing the essence of landscapes, while soft pastel tones breathe life into the delicate nuances of natural and urban scenes. For geometric abstractions, I switched from oil to acrylic, drawing inspiration from my background as a designer in civil and mechanical engineering. Here spatiality and form come together and invite the viewer to a fascinating interplay of shapes and colors. My artistic palette spans the spectrum from ascetic monochrome to exuberant explosions of form and color, reflecting the kaleidoscope of emotions and experiences that shape our collective human journey. With my work I invite the viewer to embark on a visual journey where imagination connects with reality and every brush stroke tells a story waiting to be discovered. Join me on our journey through the landscapes of the mind and explore the infinite possibilities art offers us to connect, reflect and transcend.
