(Please send all inquiries to curator@saatchiart.com) Subaqueous is part of a series featuring a colony of ‘Ant People’ living inside of a shell who seem to defy most of the rules of being underwater. They have a strong sense of curiosity and playfulness in regards to their surroundings.The focal point of this painting came about from a pen drawing that was meant to be an exploration of the subconscious. The idea of being underwater came from a recurring dream that I sometimes have where I’m living underwater and swimming feels like flying. While working on this piece I became a little bit obsessed with aquatic wildlife and coral reefs. Which made me want to incorporate the colorful and eclectic underwater environment.

Jennifer is a Chicago-based Visual Artist with 10 + years of experience in oil painting. Her work engages with strength, beauty, authenticity, and environment themes. Jennifer's practice is rooted in playfulness, wit, and appropriation using found objects. Jennifer starred on MTV and the Smithsonian’s docuseries, ‘The Exhibit’. She has exhibited her work at Palazzo Bembo, Venice Italy; The Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago; Silos Gallery 200, Houston, TX; the Martin Gallery, Chicago, IL; the Sidney Larson Gallery, Columbia, MO; and in Saatchi Art's Virtual exhibition. In 2020, Jennifer received the 35 under 35 Rising Star award from Saatchi Art. She graduated in 2011 with a BA in International Business and a minor in Visual Arts from Eckerd College. She attended a Painting and Drawing program at the Leo Marchutz School of Fine Art in France.
