The Thinning Veil Painting

This painting was inspired by the archaic architecture of northern Vietnam. It speaks of the importance of listening to your intuition in times of uncertainty, that magic that exists within ourselves and everything around us so that we feel a sense of curiosity and wonder even in the darkness. As the veil of darkness and ordinary reality thins, we see the intelligence, beauty and complexity of the unknown I chose watercolor because of its fluidity in creating an emotive, atmospheric background. Above this are elements of spray painted colors and textures to create a sense of depth and complexity. The outermost dark blue layer was created by applying and erasing oil paint to veil and unveil the preexisting layers, highlighting our own layers of perception.
