The three monkeys are Mizaru, covering his eyes, who sees no evil; Kikazaru, covering his ears, who hears no evil; and Iwazaru, covering his mouth, who speaks no evil. There are various meanings ascribed to the monkeys and the proverb including associations with being of good mind, speech and action. In the Western world the phrase is often used to refer to those who deal with impropriety by turning a blind eye. The source that popularized this pictorial maxim is a 17th-century carving over a door of the famous Tōshō-gū shrine in Nikkō, Japan . The carvings at Tōshō-gū Shrine were carved by Hidari Jingoro, and believed to have incorporated Confucius’s Code of Conduct, using the monkey as a way to depict man’s life cycle.

I was born in 1972 in a small farming village in Salento, Puglia. I have been "painting" since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. I have not attended any school or art institute and having had no formal training, I am self-taught. My techniques are my own discovery which have evolved over time, and I love vibrant colors. I consider free painting as a therapeutic exercise. Without a predetermined outcome in mind, I let my intuition guide me. As I proceed, recognizable elements emerge, forming a context in the final result. I embrace the freedom of painting directly on canvas. This approach grants me the freedom to experiment with shapes and colors, allowing my creativity to flow until I feel completion. To me, creation has always been an open door to a wider and more colorful world, where possibilities have no limits other than the imagination given to them. My compositions reflect a community point of view, capturing the essence of a collective consciousness inviting viewers to explore the interconnectedness of beings and the richness of shared experiences. My art is subjective with the intent to provoke an emotion in its viewer. My artworks made in acrylic on canvas are inspired by many movements and artist like Nicolas de Staël, Willem De Kooning, Jackson Pollock, Vassily Kandinsky, František Kupka, Myself. I range from painting to collage, from wooden objects to stone, giving each one my own vision, a shape depending on the mood and the moment. In addition to painting, I have made several objects, especially lamps, using disused materials. I like to recycle objects found on the street or on the beach giving back another meaning and the value that they have lost. The interpretation of the work is left to the subjectivity of each one who will be able to see in it an inner world all their own.
