Xanthic Painting

Xanthic is inspired by the desktops of technical colleges marked by years of pattern making as well as the crafting of embroidered objects for the home traditionallly made by women .Xanthic fuses the male dominated world of industry with the homespun .I hope viewers will get a sense of both those influences but also see something other than that in the work. I chose this format as it allows me to explore things on a small scale before committing to larger works that may be prohibitively expensive to make. It gives me pause to reflect on whether I feel larger pieces would be worth pursuing. At college I became interested in the intimate and handmade quality of hand stitching and how it could be emulated in paint. These works grew organically from other earlier pieces that were sections of desktop reworked.
