This view of Mount Everest, or Chomolungma, Mother Goddess of the Earth, the Tibetan name, is from a very rare angle, seldom photographed. The reason? The Chinese have shut down the Nangpa La, a 20,000 foot pass between Tibet and Nepal, on the original salt route where this photograph was made. This photograph is rare indeed. From this angle you can see both the north, Tibetan side, and the south Nepal side of the peak. I lugged a large format 5X7 camera up to this vantage point to create a photograph of this quality with film, kodachrome 64. I covered this ancient salt trade route for National Geographic magazine as I know more about this ancient trade than any one else alive. I hope that this rare photograph inspires excellence, and reaching for the ultimate. But more than that I hope the spiritual essence of this highest point on earth inspires beautiful intentions of peace and tranquility for all human kind. May this image create peaceful, calm feelings for the viewer. This large photograph, 22" X 32" is a limited series of 108, the number of prayer beads on a Buddhist prayer mala. Archival and museum quality paper and printing utilized: Epson UltraChrome HDR pigmented inks, and Canson Infinity Photographique 310 gsm paper. Decorators, other sizes and prices available.

I hold some world climbing and skiing records, and made the Olympic Biathlon Team, a combination of rifle marksmanship and cross country skiing. However I consider myself a writer/photographer/author, with about 20 non-fiction books out, for both children and adults. My passion is extreme photography, which shifts my mindset. I have made my way to very remote areas, to capture the essence of a place and it's people, and try to replicate this sense for my viewer.
