About The Artwork

Identity paper / Papier identitaire. Luce Pelletier examines the inevitably of death with her wall paper sculptures. Memento Mori is one of the earliest and most pervasive symbols in art history. Meaning literally to “remember death” in Latin, human skeleton heads were often painted into scenes to remind the viewer of their own mortality. It may sound a bit morbid but it’s really just an ancient form of #yolo. Contemporary artist Luce Pelletier explores that, and other symbols of life and time, in her latest works “Identity Paper,” a series of sculptures created with wallpaper found in an abandoned Quebec home. By using vintage wallpaper sourced from an old home as the medium for her sculptures of human parts and small animals, Pelletier reinforces the idea of the ephemeral. The inevitable decay that is implicit in her work is hauntingly beautiful; the rough natural textures mimics nature while the faded floral prints distances the sculptures from real life. http://www.notey.com/@cubebreaker_unofficial/external/8785335/luce-pelletier-examines-the-inevitably-of-death-with-her-wall-paper-sculptures.html

My works was exhibited across Quebec, Canada, France and in United States. Since the 90s, ephemeral sculpture has been the principal part of my output and this has led to me great interest in photography. I am well known for site-specific sculpture in natural and urban settings. I create both temporary and permanent sculptures which question the relationship between man and nature. My subscription of the Public Art Commission has been crucial to the development of my work. I has been selected for over thirty public art commissions in Quebec, Canada. Based on the observations of nature, my sculptures are hybrid in form and reveal links between the mineral, animal and plant worlds. My work appeared in prestigious collections including Cirque du Soleil, the Art Bank of Canada and private collection in Canada and U.S. I also teach art since 2009 to the Maison des Métiers d'art de Québec.
