Refugee-born artist Partha Sengupta is an Indian award-winning documentary photographer in Calcutta. He spent nearly a decade working with India’s largest financial institutions while simultaneously pursuing his interest in social documentary photography. In 2012, he embraced photography full time, joining the staff of a local newspaper and working independently. Currently he is exploring post-colonial study of Bengal in visual narratives and extending work on gender violence. His main interests are identity, refugee and gender studies, and the role of the state. His works were exhibited in Cambodia, Dhaka, Goa, Delhi, New York, Berlin, and Montreal. He was awarded numerous fellowships and grants in developing his artistic work. On a fully funded scholarship, he studied documentary photography and visual journalism at ICP, New York. He has an MBA in Finance, lives in Calcutta, and has a special interest in Anthropology.
