ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Afternoon sun low in the sky and all the wild life coming out, the ducks, the squirrels, frogs and hares, making the walk such fun! An etching is a copperplate where with the help of acid I have incised my drawing, I then add aquatint to get the deep tones of ink, with the help of rosin that gets heated onto the plate, all a bit complicated but fun, and us printmakers, we love to complicate things! You can see me make and print an etching if you go to the "me at work" section here in my shop. Every time I print the copperplate, I have to ink it up with special etching inks, and then put it on my etching press, place the printmaking paper on top and pull it through. When the ink and paper has dried, I sign and number each print, please note I can't guarantee you get the number in the photo. The size of "Autumn in the Park" is, paper: 17" x 9" ( 43 cm x 24 cm) with the image copperplate: 14" x 6" ( 35 cm x 15 cm) I ship the etching to you from my studio in the south of Denmark, I live on a wonderful island surrounded by all the nature that gives me inspiration. I have many years experience of sending art, I pack it very carefully so it arrives safely. I am of course very happy to gift wrap and include a message, just let me know. Thanks so much for visiting and hope to see you soon again! Mariann

Almost 20 years a full time printmaker and I am as much in love as the day I pulled my first print! My presses have moved with me, from Borneo to Singapore, from Singapore to Spain, and now on to Denmark, where I have set up my studio and gallery. I am self taught, a book, a way to thick copper plate and a gallon drum of nitric acid, making every mistake you could, and learning, learning as I went along. I started with etchings and added linocut when we moved to Singapore. Here I also taught printmaking at Singapore Tyler Print Institue, picking up and learning from the master printmakers there. I never want to be too "old" to learn, to challenge myself, to do better! My inspiration comes from a variety of sources, I have no single line of work, but prefer to make images as they come into my head, through books, I love to read, through radio, music and a huge part, from my daily dogwalks, that not only provide inspiration from nature but also moments of contemplation that results in many of my prints! All my prints are printed on best quality printmaking papers (favorites are Magnani, Fabriano, and Hahnemuelhe) with Charbonnel etching inks.
