About The Artwork
I am Canadian, And the goose is an important symbol of Canadian identity. For me I have created a goose from canvas much like the paintings I make, this time I've chosen to sew a goose, once the goose was sewn I hand sewed circles painted in a plethora of colors to it. For me the full grown goose shown the average Canadian and colors a medley of the diversity Canada offers, especially Vancouver where I am from. I have always loved Damian Hirst famous dot paintings & for me it evolved to the diversity we have in people, but also how we become embody innocence as a child and playfulness. I wish to bring this to adults, with a plush looking goose showing exposed raw canvas the underbelly of who we are the painted façade, white primed canvas and the creativity and fun bursting from us as Polka dots. Each unique with something to offer and something to show, each goose being a migratory bird seeking warmer climates come winter much like us and our search for greener pastures. This being said the innocence of the goose and its magnanimous lifestyle lends its self to a pure form. Meet Damian the goose.
