About The Artwork

I am inspired by the opulent luxury of Art Deco, which was prominent in the art of the 1920s and 30s, as well as the rhythmic trends of the 1950s and 60s. These periods transformed people, objects, natural motifs, and abstract squares into equal units, giving them an industrial character. This piece is part of my latest solo exhibition of textile paintings titled "A Collection of Modular Sweets." It comprises seventeen new works created using the tufting technique. Sweets and sweetness are at the core of my artistic narrative. Sweetness is the story - it's the essence of my work. By isolating sweetness from the everyday flow of life, it becomes concentrated and somewhat exaggerated. Sweetness delicately merges with the soft wool fringes and vibrant colors. My artistic concepts and forms emerge when I hold a strand of woolen yarn in my hands. The material itself guides me and tells me what to create.

Silja Pogule is a Latvian contemporary artist working in textiles and painting. Her artistic journey commenced during her formative years, influenced by the ever-changing colors of Latvia's landscape and her grandmother's expertise in textile craft. Fueled by her passion for art, Pogule pursued Textile Arts at Riga Design and Art School, culminating in an MFA from the Art Academy of Latvia, specializing in Monumental Painting. Her art is distinguished by its vibrant colors and abstract forms, gracefully marrying painting and textile into a harmonious whole. With nearly two decades of experience as a graphic designer, her art bears the imprint of this rich influence. Pogule's creations have graced solo and group exhibitions across Europe, earning acclaim for her visionary "Collection of Modular Sweets." Within this collection, sweetness is explored conceptually, liberated from the daily grind, and celebrated as a desire, an emotion, and a unique lens through which to perceive the world. Pogule's art has found a cherished place in private collections worldwide, spanning the USA, Canada, Singapore, Brazil, Netherlands, UK, Ireland, Germany, and beyond. Presently, she is actively engaged in international exhibition projects, promising fresh and innovative perspectives at the crossroads of textile arts, painting, and design.
