Detail of chisel marks on base
This is one of a series of five sandcast fish, each one was then individually finished by hand polishing and detailing.
It is made of solid aluminium, and sits on a small wooden base measuring 3cm high x 11cm.

This is the first time I tried casting a series of my work - there are two fish available from this series.

I express my sculpture through the medium of stone, metal and wood. As a ‘direct carver’ I carve stone without first producing a model, working with materials sourced as close as possible to my location. I live in New Zealand, but was born in Africa, and was named after my Greek uncle, a squadron leader in the RAF. I have sculpted all my life, heavily influenced by the Matebele and Mashona direct sculptors. Aged 17 I moved to London. I studied stonecarving at the City and Guilds of London Art School. My sculpture had been exhibited internationally, from the Cork Street Gallery in London to the International Art Centre in Auckland.
