Claudia Cárdenas

My name is Claudia Cardenas. I am an artist of Cuban origin, settled in Spain for 20 years. Since I was very young I began to venture into the world of art through music and later through the visual arts. From the formal point of view, I am very attracted to the expressionist aesthetics, the beauty of the grotesque and the different. As for the conceptual part, I am very motivated by themes related to politics, uprooting, motherhood, personal empowerment. My work is a balance between the reflection of the misery and the crude political crisis experienced during my childhood, typical of being born in a dictatorial regime, and the most intense and heartbreaking emotions experienced personally as a result of early emigration, uprooting, identity conflicts, motherhood, and the internal struggles of a common but very emotional human being, trying to survive and adapt to a convulsive, frenetic and superficial contemporary world. My means of expression are conceptual art through land art style installations, informalist painting, fretwork and video art. Since I was a child I love to compose so I also express myself through music and I have several conceptual projects that unify both manifestations.
