My work is based on dream images and Jungian archetypes. The motions and mood painted in an Expressionistic style alow for both figurative and abstract elements to combine and recontextualize, as they do in dreams. Jacqueline Rieder Hud (American, 1948 - ) is a Bozeman, MT painter whose work reflects the archetypal depth of dreams set against Western themes. Shadows, figuration and primitive drives interact in the tradition of the German Expressionists but as a distinctly American journey. Jacqueline depicts the relationship between the external wilderness and our inner creative instinct in presenting an integration of psyche with our waking lives on a path toward indiviudation and greater consciousness. In 2011, Jacqueline experienced a 3-year descent into madness. Drawing inspiration from Carl Jung's own 'Red Book,' Jacqueline's paintings and the subsequent publication of her art book ('Laundry for Strangers: A Personal Memoir of Creativity, Sexuality and Fury,' Veronica Lane Books, Venice CA) took on a new intensity that document the archetypal visions we all eventually must experience on our life trajectories. These paintings are not for the faint of heart!
