I grew up with parents who knew how to make something from nothing. Our home was like a big studio for my mom and the yard was my fathers treasured domain. I'm deeply influenced by the Uzbek Ikat design ( where my parents came from) and the colorful Uzbek textile that surrounded me since I was born. Because of our parents influence we all played musical instrument , sang ,painted and wove . To be an artist was not a question it was a way we lived and expressed ourselves. I paint mostly abstract out of a choice- to get lost in the unknown and to find my voice in painting is thrilling to me. I love variety of shapes, mark making and colors . An expressive brushstroke, a gestural quality of lines, a dub of a paint and how thick or thin the paint is laying against one another excites me in ways I can't explain. Coming up with composition that appeal to me is like a dance of push and pull. I feel very strongly that my inner world guides me on how I paint and what I paint, and only later it all make sense. All the rich experiences that accumulated throughout my life is what appear on the canvas. Every once an a while I do like to go back to the traditional painting.
