Welded Metal Sculptor.
Alexander Ospina is a Colombian sculptor born in 1973 in Medellín, Colombia. He specializes in welded metal sculpture, working primarily with iron and steel. His artistic practice is rooted in an empirical and self-taught process, through which he has developed a strong technical mastery and a distinctive sculptural language.
His work explores both figurative and abstract forms, achieving a high level of detail, realism, and expressive strength. Through metal—an industrial and rigid material—Ospina creates emotionally charged sculptures that reflect on human nature, social tension, inner strength, and symbolic narratives.
Ospina’s sculptures are characterized by their solidity, dynamic movement, and powerful presence. Many of his works depict human figures and animals, conceived as timeless symbols of resilience, spirituality, and transformation. His pieces are designed for both indoor and outdoor settings, featuring durable electrostatic finishes that ensure long-term resistance to weather conditions.
Today, Alexander Ospina is recognized as a representative voice of contemporary popular sculpture in Colombia.
Ospina is a self-taught artist, whose education has been developed through years of hands-on practice, technical research, and experimentation with welded metal and hammering techniques. His artistic training is based on continuous exploration of materials, structural solutions, and finishing processes, allowing him to work confidently in both small and large-scale formats.
His professional growth has been strengthened through participation in institutional exhibitions, public art programs, and competitive art grants, which have contributed to the refinement of his conceptual approach and technical excellence.
