Robert was born in 1952 in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales, and grew up in Heolgerrig, a small village on the outskirts of the town. He has worked in the media for many years. He now lives in Warwick with his wife, Dorothy and has a son Ollie. He is represented by Dominic Charlet in Paris. The images of Robert Haines are painstakingly composed and manipulated to create psychically charged explorations of the nature of childhood and the process of self-discovery. They draw on influence from the portrait paintings by Rennaisance artists such as Van Eych and Lucas Cranach. There is also an element of the early photographic portrait studio.The rewoeking of the imagery encompases childhood memory or half-remembered dreams created from personal memories. Class, childhood expectation and evil are touched upon.
