AKORE is a Barcelona-based self-taught street and multidisciplinary artist, known for his powerful fusion of post-graffiti language and African aesthetics. Emerging from the hip-hop movement of the late 1980s, his work has evolved into a distinctive visual universe defined by vibrant color, bold gesture, and cultural identity.
His practice centers on striking portraits of African women, exploring themes of memory, ancestry, and spiritual strength. Through intense chromatic contrasts and expressive mark-making, AKORE creates works that are both visually impactful and symbolically charged.
Working across painting, sculpture, installation, and video, he often incorporates recycled and found materials, reinforcing a commitment to transformation—both artistic and social. His work moves between the studio and the street, where painting in public space becomes an act of presence and resistance.
AKORE has exhibited internationally, with works shown in Spain, France, Germany, Senegal, and Australia, and has been featured in publications such as Time Out, National Geographic, El País, and La Vanguardia, as well as the documentary series This is Art (BBC Studios / Movistar+).
Self-taught artist, with an artistic practice developed through decades of work in street art, painting, and multidisciplinary experimentation.
