Amarena Bloom

ABOUT

Anna, who paints as Amarena Bloom, was born and raised in a small town near Saint Petersburg, close to the Finnish border. Surrounded by the cold waters of the Gulf of Finland and dreamy green forests, she began drawing and painting long before she started school.

At the age of ten, she moved to Saint Petersburg with her parents and began her formal artistic training at art school. After graduating, she chose a “safe and stable” path and studied marketing and design. Since 2007 she has worked as a graphic designer and freelance photographer, but she never lost her passion for fine art.

In 2009 she started a new chapter of her life and moved to Basel, Switzerland. In 2012 she continued her artistic education at the renowned Basel School of Design. There she experimented with new media and techniques such as printmaking, etching, collage and illustration. In 2014 she also began working in film photography.

Anna describes her style as intuitive semi-abstract painting. It draws on her visual experiences, such as everyday life and travel, and on her understanding of composition and colour.
