Ashis Mondal (b. 1978, Kolkata) is a practicing contemporary artist whose work draws deeply on the search for inner energy, transformation, and the human spirit. A graduate of the Indian College of Art and Draftsmanship (Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, 2001), Mondal has pursued painting with an unbroken dedication for over two decades, presenting his unique vision through both solo and numerous group exhibitions in India and abroad. His visual language is rooted in Cubism, reinterpreted through a highly personal lens. Central to his practice is the recurring motif of the horse—emerging as a metaphor for primal vitality, time, movement, and adaptation. What begins as a symbol of wild, untamed energy evolves into a reflection of socialized existence and the inner force that propels human life. Through layered compositions and dynamic brushwork, Mondal’s paintings invite viewers into an introspective dialogue that goes beyond form to evoke spiritual resonance. He has showcased his work widely, with solo shows in New Delhi and Kolkata, and over a hundred group exhibitions across India, Europe, and the Middle East. His contributions have been recognized with awards such as the Nidhu Roy Award (2020, Bangladesh). Mondal continues to live and work in Kolkata, exploring art as a journey of emotional depth and transcendence.
